Leotard fabrics
Knitted fabrics such a leotard are among humanity’s best inventions. They let you enjoy comfort and freedom of movement while protecting our body against adverse outdoor conditions. Since knitted fabrics are “working” and always returning to their original shape, they prove a great choice whenever movement is considered.
Just as with woven fabrics, knitted fabrics are also divided into categories, determining their suitability and application. Leotard fabric is a thin material with weave offering elasticity in both directions. They are often used in the clothing industry for the manufacture of underwear – panties, briefs, undershirts, pajamas, and – first and foremost – in sports clothing.
Cotton or bamboo leotard is best used in underwear, possibly with addition of the small percentage of polyester or elastane. Sports clothing is best made using polyester fabric, which is more durable.
Industrial leotard fabrics
Such fabric is used also as lining leotard. Its function is similar to that of lining, only it integrates with the main top layer material by gluing, sewing or welding (in case of synthetic fibres) the two layers together.
Lining leotard is almost identical in function as interfacing, with the added advantage of elasticity and tensile strength and washing at high temperatures. Used in the manufacture of clothing, shoes, underwear (bras), and in the furniture industry. It is easy to dye to all colours and easy to apply intricate designs.
