Quilted fabrics
Quilted fabrics are usually two layers of material, with wadding sewn between them. The thickness of wadding is the function of end product purpose; the thicker it is the more clear the quilted pattern becomes, and thus the more decorative the appearance.
Commonly used quilted materials are used to manufacture jackets with a top exterior layer of polyamide fabric (in thicker variant) and thinner interior lining (usually made of polyester).
Trans-Tex, the manufacturer of woven and knitted fabrics, offers multiple variants of quilted fabrics. Depending on specifications and needs of customers, we can supply quilted woven or knitted fabrics either in two layers (top layer material and thermal insulation) or in three layers (additional lining). Another possibility with three-layered quilted fabrics is using the same material (in two different colours) as a top layer and lining layer, to obtain reversible jackets.
The best effect of quilting can be achieved on solid colours, where quilting and seams are the sole decorative design. However, we let the customer have the final say and we also produce quilted fabrics in a patterned variant.
Depending on individual needs of customers, quilted fabrics, especially synthetic ones designated for protective clothing, we may further enrich special impregnation repelling the first drops of water. This works in particular in materials designated for autumn and winter jackets.
Applications of quilted fabrics
Quilted fabrics are used first and foremost in
- clothing industry – quilted materials are the great base for all kinds of jackets. The thickness of thermal insulation and top layer material are determined by the season the jacket is designed for. Two-layered quilted fabric, only comprising wadding and thin polyester or viscose layer, is the material used as a lining in all kinds of outerwear for children and adults. Quilted fabrics designated for jackets may be produced not only from synthetic fibres. Depending on the customer’s needs and the designed effect, the thermal insulation layer may be quilted with any kind of woven or knitted fabric.
- interior decoration items – quilted materials are used mostly in decorative bed throws. In such case, three-layered quilted fabrics are used, only the edges are finished; two-layered fabrics are combined with a more decorative top layer material. In addition, they are used in decorative cushions, all types of covers or kitchen accessories – protective gloves, mittens, kettle warmers.
- We offer quilted materials for other industries too, not only made from synthetic but also from natural fibres. We also have nearly unlimited possibilities of dyeing and applying all kinds of designs.
