Upholstery fabrics
Each woven and knitted fabric is manufactured with a specific purpose in mind. In the phase of design, preparation, and selection of relevant fibres it is good to know what purpose the end product will serve in order to be able to shape its properties accordingly. This is especially true with upholstery products, which, depending on the place of use (outdoor, indoor, business use), have to feature properties matching their intended location.
Upholstery fabrics are intensely used and face all kinds of challenges during their service life, especially when attached to furniture in public spaces, with hundreds of people using them daily. Such places include public transit vehicles (trams, trains, buses), cinemas, restaurants, etc. Once the seats were upholstered with artificial leather, which was very easy to clean albeit providing little comfort when sitting for a longer time. Presently we have at our disposal a full range of pleasant and comfortable fabrics, equally hygienic as artificial leather but much more durable.
Types and properties of upholstery fabrics.
Upholstery fabrics should have properties matching their purpose. What properties can Trans-Tex provide? General ones include tensile strength, resistance to abrasion and piling. Additional ones include antibacterial, antifungal, slip-proof properties, enhanced resistance to contamination, reduced adsorption of liquids, improved resistance to fading under UV radiation, or fireproof properties.
We manufacture upholstery fabrics from twisted cotton yarns with the addition of synthetic fibres, or completely from synthetic fibres. They may also be plaited fabrics (solid coloured and patterned, tweeds) with visible weave, giving the fabric the appearance of linen. Suede and velvet, which are pleasant in touch due to their delicate hairs, are also very popular. In addition, each upholstery fabric can be manufactured in a quilted variant, which will significantly set each furniture item apart.
One upholstery fabric can be provided to you in two variants – as upholstery material, with all necessary properties, or without additional options, designated for the manufacture of matching accessories, such as curtains or cushions.
